how to promote your blog, part I

I started blogging three months ago. I find it is easy to write content, but difficult to promote it. Rather I spent three to four times more time to promote the blog than writing it. I have learnt a few ways to promote myself digitally and generate digital asset, which is the future. I am no master in it and still learning. So I will keep updating this article from time to time.

Here I am sharing a few of the experiences which helped me in bringing traffic to my blog. In this article I am trying to give an introduction about blog promotion. Please note this is just to give a brief of all the possible ways by which we can improve our digital presence.

I will give an overall view of blogging and its promotion. In future I will write a series of articles on Blog marketing. So please follow—

Actually, I got the idea of writing this article when I was trying to explain it to my friends. They were prolific writers but the marketing of their content was not their forte.

Now let's take your Blog as a new shop, Where you will have two types of customers (1) Inorganic visitors (the person known to you) (2) Organic visitors, the real customers, who liked your product/want to purchase your product/ and want long term business relationship

(1)     INORGANIC VISITORS: You relative/known persons who will come initially and buy things from your shop a few times. We call them INORGANIC CUSTOMERS, they are coming because they are known to you and will not buy just because they need it or finding your stuff appealing/attractive or price-wise competitive, but because they value your relationship. And mind you, they will buy a few times only, for a long time business association they would weigh quality, price and their convenience.

SIMILAR IN YOUR BLOG initially your known persons may visit it, but they will continue only if they find it worth reading or it is of interest to them. These INORGANIC visitors are helpful initially

(2)     ORGANIC VISITORS: They are the one who is interested in reading your content. And if your content quality is good, they would be your long time readers. For any successful Business, organic visitors are a must. You cannot expect your known persons to visit all your blogs.

In any business INORGANIC and ORGANIC visitors have their importance. I will give a brief about (1) how to bring in organic traffic to your blog & (2) how to bring Organic traffic to your blog. In the coming series of blogs, I will take up all mediums one by one in details.

INORGANIC TRAFFIC:

Whatsup:  There is not much to explain how to promote and post your blog through whats up. First, go to your blog click on the article you intend to promote and copy the link of your blog as shown in the picture. Now if you want to promote it through whatsup share it the following content with your contacts.

(The longest 9.02 km long highway tunnel between Manali to Lahaul-Spiti becomes functional. Would prove a game changer to protect Indo-Pak-China borders https://indiavaani.blogspot.com/2020/10/the-longest-highway-902-km-long-tunnel.html)

We should post the same in your TWITTER, FACEBOOK, LINKEDIN, INSTAGRAM, SHARE CHAT, TELEGRAMand other social sites.

Please Note, you should not flood your social sites with your blog links (Posting two-three links a day is ok) otherwise, they may consider your account as a spam spreader and might go the extent of blocking your account or automatically removing your links from the site.

Positive points of Inorganic Traffic:

1)       It gives you instant glucose (traffic) to your blog, which is a lifeline for a beginner.

2)       If your contact is of interest to your contacts/followers, some of them may convert into organic traffic to your blog

3)       Boost up your moral, as for the first three months, you may not get organic traffic to your blog.

4)       You will get genuine comments from your contacts/followers that would help you to improve your content.

Negative Points of Inorganic Traffic:

1)       It is a temporary arrangement only and ultimately organic traffic will help

2)       Long term excessive use of these sites may produce negative results.

3)       Sometimes it becomes annoying for your contacts to see your blog frequently and might earn a negative impression in their mind.

4)       Since it is not a long term arrangement, it is not advisable to spend more time in ‘inorganic promotion’. If the same time is spent in producing quality content or organic following, it would pay in long term.

ORGANIC TRAFFIC

Organic traffic of any website is the backbone. It mainly depends upon various factors (1) nature of content and quality of articles (2) Search Engine Optimization (3) Use of microblogging websites to make your article visible to people who might be interested in your content.

Nature of content and Quality of articles:

1)       Your content selection should attract more and more people. Written in simple and straight language and informative.

2)       Try to post an article which you are comfortable in writing. Quality would automatically improve.

3)       Always choose a topic, which has a long shelf life—I mean an article which people would like to read even after five years.

4)       Try to use ‘trending words’ (which are mostly searched in google/bing/yahoo search engines), I will take it up in detail in my future blogs. Normally more people will reach to your articles on the net only if you have used ‘trending words.

Search Engine Optimization

1)       Though it is a specialized field, but again no rocket science. We may not work as efficiently as professional (SEOs) but can do enough to put our website on three main search engines.

2)       We must Index our Website with three main search engines (1) Google Search Console (2) Bing Webmaster Tools (which would also take care of Yahoo search Engine.

3)       You may also Index your website to Yandex ( a leading search engine in Russia)

I will take up indexing search engines one by one in detail in my future blogs

Use of websites which mainly promotes your blog and bring generate organic traffic in your website.

There are many websites which helps in promoting blog/websites. It compiles all the data we post on these website and then try to promote it to their users. Results are remarkably astonishing. If one work half on these websites and upload the link of their articles, their organic traffic would witness a steep surge.

These websites we can try is https://mix.com/,   https://paper.li/, https://www.pinterest.com/ & https://medium.com/ the list is long but for a beginner these four websites are sufficient. How to use it I will take it up one by one in my coming blogs.
While for mix.com and for medium.com, we only need to paste the link and it would automatically do the rest.
In Paper.li and Pinterest, we have to make some addition while posting it. Pinterest needs a good quality image, a link and the description of the blog. Similarly paper.li needs a editing and promotion besides posting the URL of the article.
